Opening of newly built roads in Yasamal district of Baku takes place

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva attended the opening of newly built roads in the area previously called “Sovetski” in the capital’s Yasamal district, as a continuation of the Mirzagha Aliyev and Fuzuli streets, and familiarized themselves with the progress of the works being carried out in other streets, May 30.

The Head of the State was given information about the works done in the first stage of the project “Building new roads and performing landscaping and improvement works in the former “Sovetski” area of Baku”.

It was told that the first stage of the project included reconstruction works in 5 streets with total length of 7 kilometres, with the second stage including laying out of green areas, parks, recreation zones and building of social infrastructure. Implementation of the project started on August 5, 2016.

In the framework of the works carried out by “Azeravtoyol” JSC in accordance with the relevant resolutions signed by President Ilham Aliyev in August last year in connection with reconstruction of the road infrastructure around the Fuzuli Square and the Tazapir Mosque complex, the circle on the Fuzuli Square was removed. Movement of transport facilities were redirected in accordance with the project. So, movement of transport facilities has been directed to the right from the Shykhali Qurbanov Street before reaching the circle - to the new road built as a continuation of the Fuzuli Street, and from there to Mirzagha Aliyev Street, using the newly created U-turn section. Transport facilities coming from the Azerbaijan Avenue will move in accordance with the new scheme provided for by the project.

By removing the square in the framework of the project on rebuilding the road infrastructure around the Fuzuli Square and the Tazapir Mosque complex, the continuation of the Mirzagha Aliyev and Fuzuli streets on both sides of the Academic National Drama Theatre have been basically rebuilt, on the new directions of movement.

The roads built as the continuation of the Mirzagha Aliyev and Fuzuli streets are 750m and 800m long, 15m wide. By commissioning these roads into operation, normal regulation of the traffic in the area has been ensured, traffic jams prevented, and necessary conditions have been created to ensure pedestrians’ safety.

Width of the 440-metre long Balababa Majidov Street, rebuilt in the framework of the project, was widened up to 15 metres. Full up-to-date road infrastructure has been created here too.

Final completion works are underway now in the 1825-metre long Abdulla Shaig Street, with the width reaching 15 metres after being widened, and in the 2165-metre long Narimanov Avenue. These roads too are expected to be commissioned soon.

At the moment, final completion works are continuing at a high pace across the area where the project on rebuilding the road infrastructure around the Fuzuli Square and Tazapir Mosque complex is being implemented.

Up-to-date illumination systems, bus stops will be built and under- and overground parking areas and pedestrian crossings constructed along the new roads.

President Ilham Aliyev set tasks and gave recommendations in connection with the works to be carried out under the project.
