Azerbaijan’s national football team becomes a champion of the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games

In the final match, which took place at the Tofig Bayramov Republican Stadium, Azerbaijan’s national football team, having won Omani national team with the score 2:1, won the gold medal.

First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairperson of the 4^th Islamic Solidarity Games’ Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva and family members watched the final match.

First, the state anthems of both the states were played.

Actively starting the match, Azerbaijan’s national team could score a goal in the 17^th minute. Footballer of our national team Mahir Madatov, finding a way to the rival team’s goal, won the first score to our team. In the 22^nd minute of the match, although our team was about to score another goal, the ball did not enter the frame. Mahir Madatov could not realize the penalty imposed on Oman’s national team. Nevertheless, in five minutes, Mahir Madatov scored his second goal for the national team.

A strong hit by Mahir Madatov, who had become a hero of the match, in the 37^th minute came across with the bar. Regardless of the attempts made by Oman’s national team, the first round ended with the advantage of the Azerbaijani national team, 2:0.

At the match controlled by Georgian chief referee Giorgi Kruashvili, Omani footballers started the second round more actively. In the 56^th minute of the match, footballer of the rival team Shakhrudin Al-Yahyai could reduce the difference in the score - 2:1. In two minutes, an Omani footballer came face to face with our goalkeeper Shakhrudin Magomedaliyev, but our goalkeeper finished the duel with victory, and did not allow the rival team to change the score.

Regardless of the efforts the teams made to change the score, it remained unchanged till the end. Thus, defeating the Omani national team with the score 2:1, Azerbaijan’s national team became the champion of the 4^th Islamic Solidarity Games.

The Algerian national team took the bronze medal.

Then a ceremony of awarding the winning teams took place.

Our national team defeated the Saudi Arabian national team with the score 2:0 in the group stage. No goal was hit in the match between Cameroon and Morocco national teams. Winning the right to play in the semifinals, Azerbaijan’s national team was superior to Algeria – 2:0.
