Our wrestlers win more gold medals in the Islamiada

On May 20, freestyle wrestling competitions of the “Baku-2017” 4^th Islamic Solidarity Games were completed. On the last - second - day of the competitions held in the Heydar Aliyev Sports Arena, our freestyle sportsman won 2 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, President of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev, First Lady, Chairperson of the 4^th Islamic Solidarity Games’ Organizing Committee Mehriban Aliyeva and family members watched the finals.

During the day, wrestlers competed for medals in four weight categories.

Twofold world champion, a bronze medal winner of the Rio Olympiad Haji Aliyev, competing in the 61kg weight category, having taken net victory over Alibek Osmonov from Kyrgyzstan in the decisive fight, became a champion of the 4^th Islamic Solidarity Games. Masood Ismailpurchuybari from Iran and Abdul Wahhab from Pakistan were awarded bronze medals.

Medals to the winners were presented by President of the National Olympic Committee Ilham Aliyev.

The state anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played in honour of our wrestlers-champions, and the state flag raised.

On the second day of the freestyle wrestling competitions, Jamaladdin Magomedov won the second gold medal to our team. Jamaladdin Magomedov, a winner of the World Cup, competing in the 125kg weight category, fought against wrestler from Kazakhstan Daulet Shabanbay in the decisive struggle. Winning in the tense sportive struggle, our wrestler took the highest place. In this weight category, Turkish representative Salim Ercan and Ceber Sadegzadeh from Iran were awarded bronze medals.

Medals to the sportsmen-winners were presented by Mehriban Aliyeva.

The state anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was played in honour of our sportsmen, and the state flag raised.

Azerbaijani wrestler Murtuzali Muslimov (70kg) had to be satisfied with a silver medal as a result of his fight against Mostafa Hosseynkhani from Iran.

Olympic champion Sharif Sharifov (86kg) brought a bronze medal to our national team. Our sportsman took victory over wrestler from Tajikistan Bakhodur Kodirov in the fight for the bronze medal.

Thus, our freestyle wrestlers, having won 4 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze medal in the 4^th Islamic Solidarity Games, took the first place, as a team total.
