Meeting with chairperson of the Organization for Cultural and Islamic Relations of Iran

On February 23, First Vice-president of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva received chairperson of the Organization for Cultural and Islamic Relations of the Islamic Republic of Iran Abuzar Ibrahimi Turkaman.

First Vice-president Mehriban Aliyeva underscored that the friendly and brotherly relations existing between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Islamic Republic of Iran have relied on cultural and historical ties that our peoples have been enjoying for centuries. Saying “We have been approaching the historical and cultural heritage very carefully”, - Mehriban Aliyeva expressed gratitude for establishing relations on the levels of states and peoples, relying on mutual respect and friendship. Ten meetings of heads of states in the course of the last five years have been assessed as a good sign of bilateral relations, emphasizing that these meetings have contributed to the strengthening of cooperation, and noted that our relations are covering a number of areas, including economy, transportation and, of course, cultural spheres that are very essential. The days of Azerbaijani culture in Iran last year and successful photo-exhibition entitled “Azerbaijan is a pearl of the Islamic culture” held in 2017 in the framework of the “Islamic Solidarity Year” have been appreciated as significant in terms of extending cooperation in the cultural field. Confidence was expressed that days of Iranian culture will be organized in our country on a high level, expressing assurance that the visit by chairperson of the Organization for Cultural and Islamic Relations of the Islamic Republic of Iran to our country in connection with holding days of Iranian movie in Baku will be successful.

Saying that the Iranian side has made every effort to ensure that the days of Azerbaijani culture in Iran last year took place on the highest level, Abuzar Ibrahimi Turkaman highly appreciated the conditions created by the Azerbaijani side for the organization of the days of Iranian movie in our country. He noted that the relations between our countries rely on cultural and historical ties, and that there are good possibilities today to extend these relations further.

Discussions were held at the meeting also on announcing Nakhichevan the capital of Islamic culture and Tabriz the capital of Islamic tourism this year, underscoring that there existed good possibilities for implementing various projects in the fields of tourism and culture.
