Visit to France

On November 16, 2015, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva were on a business visit to France to participate in the Leaders’ Forum of the 38th Session of UNESCO General Conference.  

The President and the First Lady were greeted at Orly International Airport of Paris by high-ranking state and governments officials.

Leaders’ Forum of the 38th Session of UNESCO General Conference

On November 17, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of  UNESCO Charter’s adoption, a Leaders’ Forum of the organization’s General Conference took place in Paris.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and  First Lady, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva attended the Forum. 

To participate in the Forum, the President and the First Lady arrived at the organization’s headquarters.

First, President Ilham Aliyev wrote his heartfelt words in INESCO’s Guests Book. Then  the President and the First Lady met former UNESCO Director General Koichiro Matsuura. 

President Ilham Aliyev addressed the Forum. 

After the Forum, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva met with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova.

Then Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva familiarized themselves with the Executive Council’s hall and delegation’s salon of UNESCO at the  organization’s headquarters.  The high-level renovation of the hall and salon was possible due to the support provided by the state of Azerbaijan. 

The President and the First Lady viewed the stone statues of a horse and ram presented by the Republic of Azerbaijan  on the 20th anniversary of our country’s membership with UNESCO. 

Put in UNESCO headquarters’ yard, these statues are permanently displayed here. These statues relate to the 12-13th centuries AD and were found in Ashaghy Ayibli village of Tovuz district. 

President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva also viewed monuments presented by other countries to UNESCO.     Displayed in the headquarters’ yard and building, these monuments are of historical and cultural significance.
